Black Lives Matter!

In the recent events of police shootings of Black Men, a new mantra has risen, “Black Lives Matter!” Well Black lives have always mattered! Since we were brought to this Country as slaves in 1619, Black Lives have Mattered! The Emancipation Proclamation of 1863 freed slaves because Black Lives Matter! From 1865 Reconstruction through 1960’s “Jim Crow” Blacks were lynched, marginalized, suffered through discrimination & segregation, Black Lives have always Mattered! The Civil RIghts Acts of 1964, that outlawed discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin because Black Lives Matter!
The Civil RIghts work of Dr. King and the thousands of others black & whites who marched, registered black voters, protested segregation & discrimination, dogs released on them, beaten & were murdered because Black Lives Matter!
Black Lives have always Mattered! However there are things we need to address as Black people to make sure we project to the world that our lives matter to us and therefore they must matter to the Nation!
Since 1973 according to the Centers for Disease Control 13 MILLION black babies have been aborted, with over 1,800 black babies aborted everyday! What about those Black Lives don’t they matter?
What about the 5,000 plus Blacks who are killed every year with over 90% of those killed by other blacks, don’t those lives matter?
What about the almost 1 million blacks in prison, while we are only 13% of the population we make up about 40% of the over 2 million people incarcerated, with most jailed for non-violent offenses, don’t those Black Lives matter?
What about the 72% of black babies born every year that are born out of wedlock, don’t those Black Lives Matter?
What about the 48% of young black men who don’t graduate from high school, don’t those Black Lives Matter too!
And what about our music and the subjugation and degradation of women calling them “bitches & hoes” music that glorifies “thug life” and bucking authority, don’t the lives of the impressionable young people who listen to this stuff matter? Aren’t we sending the wrong messages to a societal mindset we seek to change about us?
The vast majority of Black people in this Country are good decent, law abiding, hard working, church going, tax paying, people who continue to seek a brighter day, if not for themselves for their children.
We need to not only focus our energy on police shootings of Black men, we need to focus on all the other issues that are plaguing our people that are not the fault of police, or a white power structure, so that we can be all we can be in this land that most of us love and care for, if we account for the things we can control and let God do what we can’t do, we’ll be just fine by HIs Grace!

Grace and Peace….

Healthy Relationships

“A friend loves at all times.” Proverbs 17:17a
Most of us have had friendships over the years that did not last as long as we thought they would. Many of us have experienced the break up of relationships that we cherished, valued, and enjoyed. Many us I believe if asked about our friendship, and how it dissolved could quote chapter and verse on what happened and how it was their fault and not ours.
But have we ever stopped to consider what contribution(s) we made that assisted in the breakdown of that relationship.
My wife has a best friend, they are as different as night and day my wife is a very easy laid back person who is as cool as the other side of the pillow, she is an unflappable person, her best friend is a “type A” personality, whose very much a do it now, get it done now, type person, on the surface they seem as incompatible as  oil and water,  but for twenty five or so years they have had a lasting, fruitful, mutually satisfying relationship because they have “loved” each
other at all times.
When there have been challenges in their relationship they remained friends, when their have been disagreements in their relationship, they loved at all times, when they went through a period of not seeing each other much because my wife’s friend move away to finish law school,
they made away to keep in touch and loved at all times.
Sometimes in relationships we don’t always love at all times, we want to receive love all the time, but we don’t always feel like giving love. Love means to give the advantage to others not seek it for ourselves, my wife and her friend Regina are shinning examples of this principle and  that’s why they are friends after Twenty five years.
If you have a best friend(s) make a point to love them at all times whether they are right or wrong, love doesn’t condone wrong it just helps us to stand with our friends when they may need us the most.

The Lord is on Your Side!

“The Lord is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?” Psalms 118:6

Sometimes in life we feel like we’re all alone, we feel like no one understands what we’re going through. We may be having a tough time on the job, we may be dealing with the pressures of our financial condition, we may be raising our children as a single parent, with no ex-spousal support, whatever your dilemma might be know this that God is on your side!

I want to encourage you today to believe that “no weapon formed against you shall prosper and all that rise up against you, you shall condemn.” Isaiah 54:17

The devil tries to deceive us into thinking that we’re all alone, but we aren’t because The Lord is on your side! Jesus said, “I’ll never leave you nor forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5b

Pray this prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I thank you that you are on my side today & everyday, you’re in me and I’m in you, you are on my side and I’m on your side, I thank you that whatever help I need today, I know that you’ll give it to me so that I may maintain or achieve victory in my life, in Jesus name I pray, amen.

Clear Your Mind of Can’t!

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13
Many times in life when faced with the challenges of overcoming negative circumstances or situations we usually say that “we can’t do it, or I don’t know if I can do that.”
It’s amazing that when faced with hardship or adversity what comes out of us is often a negative response, but as believers in Christ Jesus we must learn how to lean on Him, through His words.
Our response as Christians should be the opposite, that “with God’s help we can and we will, overcome and win!”
The Amplified Bible reads of Philippians 4:13, “I AM READY FOR ANYTHING AND EQUAL TO ANYTHING THROUGH HIM WHO INFUSES INNER STRENGTH INTO ME; I AM SELF SUFFICIENT IN CHRIST SUFFICIENCY.”
So no matter what’s on your plate or agenda for today, you can do it! With the help of Jesus Christ, now and forever! Be Blessed Today!

What Time Is It For You?

Proverbs 3:1-4, “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die, a time to plant, and a time to pull up that which was planted: A time to kill, and a time to heal: a time to break down, and a time to build up: a time to weep, and a time to laugh, a time to mourn, and a time to dance;”
What are you dealing with right now in your life? I”m sure that we all can find ourselves somewhere in this passage of scripture. Time, is the most precious commodity that we have, for it’s the one thing in life that we can never recover.
No matter what we are going through right now in life whether it’s a good thing or a challenging thing the main thing to remember is that “we are going through it!” and that this too shall pass.
II CORINTHIANS 4:17 -18 reads, “For our light affliction, (which is for a moment) works for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory: While we look not at the things that are seen: for the things which are seen are temporal: but the things which are not seen are eternal.”
So you see friends whatever you’re dealing with or going through right now is not going to last forever because everything has a season, or a time limit to it, if you’re mourning right hold on, hang tight, because laughter is on the way, if you’ve had a break-down moment in you’re life hold on, hang tight, because healing is on the way!
So let’s stop focusing on what we’re going through and let’s focus on where we’re going to,
in the middle of what you’re going through remember God has a plan for your life, look to him and he’ll see you through!

FOR THIS CAUSE!

FOR THIS CAUSE I BOW MY KNEES UNTO THE FATHER OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST. EPHESIANS 3:14

The other day in our Sunday service I asked the people attending what they had a passion for. In other words, what was the cause they were living for?

Alot of Christians live life without a cause, without a driving force that compels us to live life to the fullest. Everybody needs a cause, everybody needs something greater than themselves to live for too many of us simply exist and go through life just trying to make it through another day.

Every believer needs a “for this cause,” every believer needs a something besides bills that wakes us up everyday and sends us out the door into a life that is full of the monotony of an everyday same old day.

It’s God’s will that you live life to the full until it overflows but in order to do that you need a passion or a cause that will drive you and motivate you to a life of service and to a life of fulfillment. Many Christians go through life viewing it through drab colors when God wants you to see life through a prism of the bright and beautiful colors of the rainbow.

My cause is the ministry of God’s word and to teach a greater understanding of God’s word. My cause is to cultivate my marriage and grow old together with my wife. My cause is to raise good children who will love God and serve Him the balance of their days. My cause is to take the message of God’s love and redemption to a lost and dying world. My cause is to lead people to victory in Christ Jesus helping them to overcome the enemy of their soul.

These are my causes, what are yours?

Think about it, you’ll be glad you did!

Making it on Broken Pieces

“And the rest, some on boards, and some on broken pieces of the ship, And so it came to pass, that they escaped all safe to land.” Acts 27:44

Apostle Paul was on his way to Rome by ship to stand before Caesar to answer the charges leveled against him by the Religious Jews who sought his demise. Paul had just finished a fast and received a word from the Lord about the trip they were about to take, during the trip he predicted that they would incur harm to the ship & even their lives could be in danger, he told this to the Roman Centurion in charge & he refused to heed Paul’s warning, believing the ships captain instead & they set out toward Rome.

During their trip they found themselves all of a sudden in the midst of a great storm that battered the ship very badly endangering them all, they managed to survive the storm but later on in their journey they ran their ship aground and the ship was stuck on sandbars with the front of the ship stuck and the rear of the ship was broken by the waves of the sea.

As the ship began to be destroyed the Rome Solderswere going to kill the prisoners (including Paul) but the Centurion (who now believed his story) sought to save Paul’s life commanded those who could swim, to swim and the rest to make it to shore on the “broken pieces of the ship.”

What about you today, has the ship of your soul run aground in the treacherous waters of life, and do you now find yourself in the midst of those waters trying to make it to the shores of peace? If you answered yes, you’re not alone many believers right now are in the midst of the shipwreck of life, some trying to swim to shore using all their energy, while others who can’t swim are just trying to make it on the “broken pieces,” of their faith in God.

I want to encourage you today that whether you swim to shore or you’re trying to make it to the shore of “peace” by hanging on to the broken pieces of your faith, you’re going to make it! I know that it might seem like everything is breaking up around you I’m releasing my faith with yours declaring that you will get safely to to shore of peace, just as Paul and all 215 men on that ship made it safely to shore.

Remember this, even in the midst of the ship running aground they made it safe to land, you’re going to make it, whether it’s through your finances, your marriage, your children, your job, your health, your whatever you’re going to make it safely to shore. Paul made it shore and eventually made it to Rome, and I say to you you’re going to make to your destination too!

Are You Rich in Good Works?

That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate.” I Timothy 6:18.

All of us lead busy lives. We are always on the go and we always have something to do, work, school, shopping, after school activities for our children and so on and so forth. Yes we are always going from place to place doing something.

In all of our doing the question must be asked, “are we rich in good works?” In other words with all of our busyness are we doing those things that really count, are we doing good works that make a lasting impact upon people, or are we simply concerned about what we have to do and where we’re trying to go.

If we’re open to it there is always something we can do or somebody we can help that takes us out of ourselves and beyond our own needs. The main thing God is interested in is not what have you done for yourself but, how many people have you helped and ministered to.

Will you be able to give Him a satisfactory answer? I hope so.

Count your Blessings!

“You are blessed of the Lord who made heaven and earth.” Psalms 115:15

When I was a boy growing up in the Baptist Church, we would sing a song that would go like this; “count your blessings, name them one by one, count your blessings, see what the Lord has done.” It wasn’t until I became a man that I really understood what that song was trying to convey.

So many times we focus on what we don’t have, instead of the blessings we do have. We are always believing God for this, that, or the other, that we don’t really stop to thank our Heavenly Father for the many blessings we enjoy.

I was recently sick with an ear infection (I hated it!) and I was feeling very uncomfortable, I went to a Wal-Mart to get some medicine and as I was coming out my eyes connected with a man in a wheel chair who had no legs and was wanting people to give him money (which I did).
Right then and there as I made my way to my truck, I began to thank God for all His blessings in my life! Even though I had an ear infection I was blessed and better off then him.

Remember the old saying; “I complained about not having shoes, until I saw a man that had no feet.”

Take a moment right now and just tell the Lord “thank you!” For all your Blessings in my life! And how much you appreciate His goodness unto you!
